We love designing magazines and the world of magazines matters to us. Sideways with newspapers, sites and news brands we’re passionated about magazines…
What is a magazine today? We are impressed by Interview’s work of art cover featuring Sandra Bullock but also the small tasty SoMe starters they’re always serving.
A vibrant part of the newspaper Helsingin Sanomat’s content are feature stories. The studio redesigned the look & feel of HS stories, launched in May, 2026. Visual shows a feature story with a clear magazine approach.
When creating a digital visual storytelling you need to think like Hitchcock did. Every single visual “mobile frame” counts as a ”scene” to create a great mobile experience.
Best practise in digital storytelling is found in the news longform and feature news stories. The top 3 of the best according to SND 47 judges, that the studio judged in, in Berkeley, CA in April are:

The studio is also proud to have redesigned the print magazine; Vi – A Swedish magazine classic, that was awarded Magazine design of the year, 2025 in Sweden. Art Director: Hanna Johansson deserves the recognition.
Magazine’s are type
In the early days of the studio I designed the culture magazine SvD Kultur; “Magazine design with type personality”, with the acclaimed British news and magazine Creative Director; Mark Porter, London. We played with Forsbergs distinct type.
Magazines are visuals
The success of any magazine relies on the visuals and so does SvD:s multi awarded culture Magazine, a visual style relentlessly executed by photographer and visual editor: Staffan Löwstedt.
The legendary Brodowitch set the visual style and the typographic choices behind the iconic Harpers Bazaar, and on his shoulders stands Ruth Ansel, Art Director at Harpers Bazaar, in the 60ties (and much more).
I once had the honour to meet her and be a part of the selected panel at the Modern museum of Art, Stockholm at the exhibition of her work also featuring the interview book about Ruth Ansel by the Feminist design duo HjärtaSmärta Ruth says; “We all steel from each other”.
Magazines are indispensable… they continuously seek to describe the present time and the aesthetics of “now”. The history of the magazines evolution and design is a constant source of joy and inspiration.
