Tight but not touching

It all started with this first look at the unnamed typeface. It took place at Konstfack university, Stockholm, back in 1997. I had a crush on an early 19th centuries sans wood type, the kind often used for poster design.

I went for the type and designed; ‘Orczy’ a fanzine that I started with Alexander Ruas, photographer and Per Han, writer. “Orczy”, launched in N.Y, where the class had a week of photo & graphic design.

That’s how “Orczy” led to my first art director job at; DN, 2001 and then to a Creative Director role to redesign Svenska Dagbladet, the competitor, where I refined the distinct Forsberg nameplate and directed the custom typeface Sueca. SvD became World’s Best Designed Newspaper, 2005, SND, among many other fine awards.

I always look out for a sans serif type to set tight, but not touching.
