Redesigning a news brand icon from 1749

CreditsDesign: Anna Thurfjell for Mark Porter, MPA. Client: Berlingske, Copenhagen, De Persgroep, Brussels. Launched 2016 in print. 2017 in digital.

The project scope was to design closely with Mark Porter, MPA on redesigning Berlingske, Denmark.

My main role was to work with the client in Copenhagen and to help Mark in London all trough the project.

It was a large scale redesign project with brand and design and we presented our work to both the owner in Belgium and the media in Denmark.

Berlingske is one of the oldest newspaper in the world, founded, 1749, by book publisher Ernst Henrik Berling.

The design project was a full redesign with new logo, typography, colour system, visual language and all fronts, sections and page design.

In 2015, Berlingske was rescued from a near death experience by De Persgroep in Brussels. The charismatic CEO of De Persgroep: Christian Van Thillo, have strong ideas with the project; – The redesign of Berlingske is essential in the multimedia transformation of the whole brand.

»Mark and Anna’s work will give the newspaper a much more modern, stylish identity with a female touch. The beautiful, yet powerful new design, will determine the core visual brand identity on all our digital platforms. I am extremely pleased with this important new milestone in Berlingske’s journey«
