Acceptera – a “funkis” typeface

Acceptera is a new sans serif typeface inspired by Sweden and the Swedish functionalist movement designed by Mario Feliciano, Feliciano Type in Lisbon, a friend and typeface designer collegue.

Acceptera (1931) is a Swedish modern architecture manifesto written by architects Gunnar Asplund, Wolter Gahn, Sven Markelius, The manifesto was written in connection with, and published shortly after, the 1930 Stockholm Exhibition.

The typeface also have references to Swedish graphic designer Anders Beckman (1907-1967), who designed type for his poster designs. Beckman is probably best known for his graphic profile for the H55 exhibition and the design school Beckmans, Stockholm that he founded in his own name in 1939.

It’s been very interesting to see the typeface Acceptera taking shape and Felicianos clear observation of Swedish typography in the modernism time era.

I assigned Mario to design a custom typeface; Sueca for the Swedish quality newspaper Svenska Dagbladet, 2008 and in that process Feliciano also showed a great understanding in the creation of a typeface family for the Swedish language that was distinct with a high legibility and readability.

Typefaces more than ever needs to be functional to work for multiple purposes; digital, print, motion and beyond … and it sure helps when the idea of the typeface carry that original simplicity thought. I can really recommend Acceptera typeface for any projects looking for a typeface that is both inclusive and functional.
